Yosuke got home from school far later than he meant to. So late that it is nearly time for bed, and he is exhausted. But he is determined to keep his promise to Yu and chat on video with the other. It's going to happen. If Yu is still awake, anyway.

So Yosuke takes out his phone and texts the other:

Shit, you awake?

Yu wasn't, actually. He'd drifted off while waiting for Yosuke, tired as he was from forcing himself to deal with people all day when he had absolutely not wanted to. The text sound wasn't enough to wake him up, so he keeps on sleeping.

Yosuke gets ready for bed while he waits for a response. Brushing his teeth, changing into his pajamas, such things as that. About ten minutes pass and Yosuke checks his phone again, and sees that luck is not on his side. Swearing under his breath, he sends a few more rapid messages. He doesn't care enough to use auto correct at the moment.

This time, Yu does wake up, because the repeated and fast-paced sound notifications are pretty damn annoying and interruptive. The messages might have made sense if they were spaced apart, but together? Yosuke was clearly being his impatient self.

"Mmph," he comments, burying his face in the pillow for a minute before flopping on his back, texting back.

Stop.

Yosuke grins because his tactic had worked. Awesome! He pauses for a second, though, and realizes he should probably feel bad for waking Yu up.

Uh, sorry. Hi.

Hi, Mister Rude.

Yu is blinking sleep away from his eyes and is not feeling very amused.

Video chat time, right?

Yeah, man! Go online.

Yosuke sits at his desk with his laptop, yawning a little as he boots it up. Soon enough, he has Skype up, and is watching his buddy list for Yu.

Yu doesn't even bother to text back. It would be useless and there was no point to delay. He sets his own laptop on his bed, arranging himself crosslegged in front of it.

He spots Yosuke online quickly and hits the call button.

Yosuke grins as he answers the call. Yu's face pops up on his screen, and he couldn't be happier to see it. "Heeeey there, buddy!"

Yu smiles in response to that grin, feeling much more awake now that he's seeing Yosuke's face. He has the usual fuzzy feeling he gets from that smile and he's okay with that.

"Hey," he says. "You're home late."

"Eh, you know," Yosuke says, waving a dismissive hand at that fact. "Everyone wanted to hang out after, and it got a little too late, and then I had to help at Junes..."

Yeah, so basically, his day had sucked for not being exhausted.

"How about you? Why'd you fall asleep?" After all, Yu normally preferred staying up much later.

Yu shrugs in response. He doesn't want to answer honestly, which is that his day had been emotionally tiring. Instead, he deviates the conversation from himself. "Tell me about everyone."

"You're changing the topic, but okay." Yosuke'll let him slip by for the moment, but they'll definitely be coming back to it.

"Everyone misses you."

"I miss them too."

Yu smiles a weak smile, trying to put on a good face but failing. It doesn't help him to hear that he's missed at all, it just makes him want to run back as fast as he can. Which is totally and utterly impossible.

"I miss you."
